I paint symbols. That is, in my creative pursuit, I intend to construct, in veiled and ciphered form, works that point, hint, and evince. I aim for my work to transpose one’s attention, curiosity, and wonder to certain transcendental ideas; ideas that lie dormant in the depth of our objective consciousness.

The essential character of my work consists in not approaching the core or kernel of the Idea itself. I do not illustrate, describe nor depict. Rather, I aim to imbue the surfaces and images I present with the qualities by which to transmit these mystical primordial Ideas. And this to me is symbol-making.

I see my artistic proclivity as having been bestowed upon me. I explore the rich historical traditions that I inherited and uphold and innovate upon them through my work. And in this digital age I see my task as a painter, a preserver, and innovative contributor to the tradition as ever more pertinent and significant.

For me the act of painting is a challenge. I do not set out to create a specific image or message from the start; I never know where I’m going. Rather, the act of painting creates the painting and its idea. And, if the challenge is good, then the image just presents itself, it’s a gift!

At its best, my work comes inexplicably and without method.
